The KC-10 Extender is an advanced tanker and cargo aircraft designed by McDonnell Douglas to provide increased global mobility. The Extender can transport up to 75 people and nearly 85 tons of cargo close to 4,400 miles without being refueled. The KC-10 entered service in 1981. The Extenders primary role is aerial refueling but can also be used in cargo transport and aeromedical evacuations. The KC-10 has played a key role in Operations Desert Storm and Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
